I didn't realize it at the time, but when I made this outfit, it was meant for celebrations. I knew a floor-length white skirt wasn't going to be an every day sort of piece. I knew a ruffle-neck shirt with puffy glittery sleeves embedded with small pearls was also not going to be just the kind of top you throw on when running errands. What I didn't realize was how special this outfit would be.
As far back as I can remember owning it, this outfit has only been worn for special occasions. The skirt is a simple maxi-skirt. The pattern is essentially two rectangles bound together. In any other color it might be an informal garment. So far it has only been worn to dedication ceremonies and graduations.
I didn't think the outfit I made to celebrate a birthday would be consistently used to celebrate achievements.
I believe those moments, the ones where you make an outfit for one thing and use it for pretty much else, are the universe's way of reminding us of something. In my case, I like to think that I'm being reminded to be grateful for how often I'm lucky enough to celebrate the people in my life.
And if no one has told you late, I believe in you!
